i checked the cylinder yoke like you said, and it says MOD.64-I.
so are you wrong on the date?
'64 would make more sense.
& it would be my year of birth. how sweet is that!?
& you should see this rig. save for a couple very fine small scratches, it's pristine.

Marshallpalooza: Radagast is (as usual) correct - your Mod. 64 dates from 1975-76. Your particular SN falls toward the middle of the range for those years, so it's not possible to pin it down to a single year, short of contacting S&W.

I'm looking at a Model 38 # ACU 38** It's a blued bodyguard with a shrouded hammer. I'm wondering what year it was produced, and what a 98% example would be worth.

Garage Dog: The "ACU" SN prefix places your revolver in approximately mid-1983. In Excellent condition (corresponding to 98%), SCSW puts the value at $325, but I think with the run-up in revolver prices since the book was published something like $375 to $400 is probably more realistic.

These are old revolvers that my Father got from his father and I was wondering about the age and possible value.

Smith and Wesson Model 32-20 CTS #119xxx

Colt D.A. 38 "US ARMY MODEL 1901 No. 170xxx
With leather holster with US in oval "embossed" under flap.

"G11
92" Stamped with individual dies on flap.

The Colt has three "notches" on the left grip.

I've got two. One is a model 66, no dash. SN 6K63XXX I've been told that it is pre-1982 since it has a pinned barrel and recessed chambers.

The other is a 44 spl and the only numbers I can find are 381 on the yoke and crane. There is also a 4 digit serial number on the butt. The same 4 digits are are on the inside of the underlug with a B prefix. This gun likely dates from the sixties or earlier. (my Dad may have first seen it around 1969)

I will probably ask S&W for a factory letter on both but any info is greatly appreciated.

6K63XXX = 1975.
Assuming it's also a S&W, take the serial number for the 44 from the underside of the frame grip butt (same place it's located on your 66).

Thanks , I just found a sight '71 is what I got from them 1K39,501 - 1K999,999 is a 1971 .. I just got this one yesterday from a buddy who needed some cash . He called and said do you want to buy my smith model 10 .. not realy I said he showed up with this model 15 . Excellant condition and the grips even have the correct ser# I'm happy with it ..

Recently my elderly father sold to me the first handgun I ever shot - S&W Model 28-2 serial # N303XX. Each time I ask my Dad when he bought the gun new he gives me a different date - anywhere between the late 50’s to the late 60's. His inability to pin down a year has sparked my interest in how long this gun been in our family. Any help you could give me is much appreciated.

Hi. I recently received my grandfathers S&W Model 37 Airweight 38 SPL CTG. It is a snubnose. Looks to be about a 1 inch barrel. Serial # is 650XXX.

EricQC: 1969-1972. That assumes you have the right number of "X"s, i.e., the SN is N plus 5 digits. They also used "N" with 6 digits, in which case an "N3XXXXX" would be from the 1975-76 period.

G-9: Your Model 37 dates from the 1962-1969. The barrel length on revolvers is measured from the forcing cone (i.e., from the front of the cylinder) - yours should be 2".
