seat pistol bullet without expanding

I found that if i put a very light chamfer on my 40 S&W brass, I can seat the bullets without expanding, and therefore not have to crimp to remove the bell. Anyone else do this ? Any bad side-effects?
FYI, these are 165 Zero JHP's with 5.0 W231 @ 1.120

The rounds I tested seemed extremely accurate.............

If they work, why not?
If the bullets were being compromised by this approach, a loss of accuracy would no doubt be apparent.
And it's not.
There might be some combination of brass, bullet diameter, die and chamber that allows this to work, so it might not with other brand bullets or brass.

That is how I seat my 357 Sig bullets. But the neck is much shorter with that round.

When I do flare my 40 S&W loads, I only flare 0.001 to 0.002". So hardly any at all. For lead I use a Lyman M die to expand.

Im curious as to how the seating process doesnt fully remove the belling. I reload 40's using an rcbs three die set. After belling the mouth, i seat and the bullet seats and the taper inside the die, pushes the case right back against the bullet without having to crimp. My rounds feed flawlessly, they are shot out of a Beretta PX4 Storm, and have been nothing short of accurate.
