1858 Pietta Conv cyl ???
Just got a conv. cyl. from Midway. Bought sum Winchester "cowboy ammo" & tried to load. Wouldn't seat and rims interfered. Wrong cyl...? or am I f'd up.
Midway was great..., as usual, and said they'd "check it out". Shipped back, and am waiting. Am I doing sumthin wrong? Much thanks from a relative newcomer. ARD |

My R&D conversion cylinder required reaming the pin bore before I could install it on my 1858. I didn't know whether to blame R&D or Pietta, but the fix was pretty easy. Your problem sounds like it might be an R&D issue and a bit more difficult to solve.

aardvarkrh,
What caliber 1858 Remington R&D Conversion is it? .45 Colt or 38 Colt? Did you happen to buy Schofield .45's? Some cyl. will take the .45 Colt and not the .45 Schofield(shorter ones) for the way the cut for the rim in the cylinder is. Now if it's say a .38 Colt you ordered and they sent a .38SPL cyl. then the .38 Colt Cowboy ammo would like as not fit right in the cylinder of a .38SPL as the .38 Colt bullets are heeled to fit the barrel. Somethin' like that could a happened. Real good question though and topic... SG

1858
+1 on that caliber check. I have an R&D .38 Special cylinder for the Pietta New Army Police .36. It dropped in and works perfectly.
As noted, could be you were sent the wrong one for your gun. Pete

Check if you have the right cylinder. Take note that R and D makes 1858 conversion cylinder for 45 LC and for .44 Colt cartridge . The 45 LC cartridge will not fit in a 44 colt cylinder.

1858 Pietta conv cyl ????
Thanks for all the response. After speaking with Midway, They believe that it's probably just the wrong cylinder. Everyone else I spoke with at the range has had little if no problem, with the correct cylinder. Fingers crossed.
Thanks to all who resonded, again! ARD |
