citizen,
We can, we can! Influencing a commercial enterprise is realitively easy = they've got a fairly immediate revenue source at risk, are in the business of making money & understand that. Re the politicos, it's really the same thing, although it takes more #s of people - from many more geographical areas - & to keep harpin' (not just a "sign a petetion" thing). At last resort, they got to be voted out. It can be done, but I've yet to see too many concerted efforts to do so .... |

considering that Kmart has declared bankruptcy, we can claim that gun owners helped cause the demise of a significant portion of their sales.

Here's an online petition. There's over 12,500 signatures on just a few days. Everyone get on board. It's about time we let them know how we feel and make sure they get the message. http://www.petitiononline.com/mod_pe...d.cgi?jeepcomm

Jeeps Response
From: [email protected]
To: [email protected] Subject: Jeep's Response on Pulling Ads Date: Wed, 16 Jan 2002 23:38:01 EST -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Thank you for your comments regarding our 30-second Jeep Grand Cherokee television commercial. We value your opinion and appreciate your willingness to share it with us. As you know, outdoor activities and communing with the environment are both basic to the DNA of the Jeep brand. That is why for many years Jeep has sponsored and supported a wide range of outdoor events and activities. With this in mind, we created the commercial to communicate the key attributes of Jeep off-road capability, ruggedness, safety and security. Because of our innate involvement with nature and outdoor activities, we felt we could use the hunting analogy in a tongue-in-cheek way to highlight the go anywhere, do anything capability of Jeep vehicles. Unfortunately, we did not anticipate this story line would evoke such negative emotion among some viewers. That was never intended. We apologize if we inadvertently offended any individual or group. Obviously we underestimated the sensitivity of this issue. Jeep, as the embodiment of the great outdoors, does not want to damage our relationship with any groups or individuals that love, appreciate and enjoy outdoor activities. Nor do we want to damage our relationship with our loyal customers or prospects who reside on either side of this issue. Therefore, because this is so emotionally charged, we will no longer continue this campaign. Again, thank you for sharing your views with us. We hope this clarifies our position. Sounds all and good but, does Jeep really mean it? Or is this just fluff?

Jeep makes no mention of sportsmen's contributions!
Jeep's response is still an individual's double-speak. This "senior staff representative" should be re-educated!
Jeep's "innate involvement with nature and outdoor activities" include taking the kids to soccer, and running over people's loose pets! :barf: Don't get me wrong, I love soccer, but please people! draw the line at catch and release deer hunting!!!

If nothing else & a bit of a twist, don't most (all) states have some sort of law against harrassing wildlife? & what would be the legal ramifications of a mere private citizen doing "catch 'n release" of any large mammal? Most likely VERY illegal? I'd betcha.
Isn't Jeep, by de facto silliness, advocating of "doing your own thing" & violating several laws? Think of the very real possibility of the trauma caused to any deer live-trapped, strapped to a bumper/hood, driven "all over" & then released in the presence of so many (+ cameramen!) - not to mention the bearded ad-guy & attendant animal-lovers-babes! The Hooror! This must be brought to light & Jeep must be called on the carpet! |
