Money in hand and nothing is calling to me,,,
I suppose I should be really happy.

It's just that it's never happened to me before,,,
Not in all of my 63 years on the planet.

I went to the huge Wannenmacher's gun show in Tulsa last Sunday,,,
I walked until my feet were swollen and purchased nothing,,,
And I had $650.00 in disposable cash in my pocket.

I saw tons of spiffy and interesting fieryarms,,,
But nothing called out to me saying "take me home".

Could it be that I have,,,
Enough guns?

Bah, all modern double action S&W revolvers are absolutely related. You could make many arguments and pairings or triples or more. If you have a Model 10... do you have a Model 64? Or you could pair a Model 10 with a Model 13.

If you get a 17 to couple up with your 18, a good "sibling" for a Model 14 might be a Model 16. Frankly, it could be endless depending upon your perspective.

It's just that I actually recall you wishing you could find and/or budget a sweet Model 17.

A long range precision shooting school?
A defensive pistol class?
A defensive carbine class?
A defensive cowboy gun class?
A shotgun clay bird school?
So much to choose, so little time.

Yes, it wasn't all that long ago,,,
But I think I've calmed down on that.

I do like to collect pairs of centerfire/rimfire guns.

I have a 15/18 set and a 36/34 set,,,
My OCD would force me to look for a 14 the moment I acquired a 17.

I have always thought I might like to get a Model 64 and a Model 10,,,
Because I already own a pristine Model 12,,,
Three fixed sight K-frame revolvers,,,
In three different metals.

They would look so elegant all cased together.

Yeah, you are right. If you did get a 17, you would want a 14 -- but if you had those two and you didn't get a Model 16, that would just be a tragedy.

How about a nickel plated Model 10 to go along with a 10, 64 and your Model 12?

(now I am really not helping...)

I have a model 17-6, 6" with those really nice ($$) S&W grips...virtually the same weight and balance as my 6" M28. Bit different recoil.

I've recently noticed something similar, going to gun shows, with cash, maybe buying a ...book....

I'm at the point that while I have fairly broad interests, they have been mostly sated. Nearly every gun / caliber I have ever been seriously interested in, I have either owned or gotten enough experience with to satisfy my curiosity.

maybe its just a slump...

I think this might be where my mind is right now,,,
I have purchased 53 fiery-arms over the past 7 years,,,
The list of guns I wanted to at least shoot (or buy) has been shortened considerably.

Other than the little .22 Plinker revolver I have on back order,,,
All of the little niche guns I wanted have been purchased.

I'm not through buying guns,,,
But the word "sated" does have relevance.

I know I'm not actively looking for anything right now,,,
I'll probably stash the cash for when something unique catches my eye.

This is actually not a bad thing to think about,,,
I certainly wouldn't sell everything,,,
But I could pare back a bit.

In that very hypothetical scenario,,,
I would keep all of the S&W handguns I have,,,
They are the favorites I take to the range most often.

The Rossi, Charter, H&R, and a few others revolvers could go away,,,
I like owning them but they would not be mourned too much.

I would have a difficult time choosing any disposable semi's.

There aren't any of them that weren't deliberately chosen to fit a niche,,,
Where as many revolvers were purchases of opportunity.

Oh well, this is very hypothetical so I can speculate away.

But I have listened to the good advice and have decided,,,
I'll just sock the money away for later,,,
Something will soon catch my eye,,,
And the money will be there for it.

I've had the situation (problem?) for a few shows lately, last month it (the solution) showed up in the form of a Magnum Research Lone Eagle. I'd never handled one before, didn't even know I'd ever want one, but there it was, a 7mm-08 with brake installed, whispering "try me...." I've had a couple of boxes of R-P brass for a few years - range scrounge - and nothing in that caliber, other components no problem, so you can guess the rest of the story. Hornady's free bullet offer made the die purchase attractive, and I picked up an Ultradot 4 to mount on it - had rings already too - and less than a month later I'm 40 rounds into seeing what it can do. Recoil is surprisingly easy to take, but the 4moa dot that's the smallest in the red dot is too big for me, even at 50 yards, so next is an EER scope with a finer reticle to try at 100 or further.

Isn't that what it's all about?

PS The bullets even showed up two days ago --- quicker than the last couple of times I've used the offer!!
