1951 Marlin 39A firing pin help!

I have a 1951 Marlin 39A that has a broken firing pin. Does anyone know where/if replacements are available? I've tried Numrich gun parts but they are out of stock. Midway only carries the late model firing pins. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try a company called "JACK FIRST GUN PARTS". They can be found by google but you have to actually call them as they dont have an online catalog.

Still no luck finding the right firing pin.

I can find "post 1974" Marlin 39A firing pins all day, but not a single "pre 1974".

Can you make one yourself? I replaced a broken firing pin in an Astra 400 with a drill bit machined to fit by a Dremel tool. Can you modify a post 74?

but have you contacted Marlin?

Probably 10 years back, mine broke (pre 74 39A) and Marlin sent me one within 5 or 6 days.

To be honest, no. I was going to but their website said they won't service 39A's more than 50 years old. Since mine was made in 1951, I figured they wouldn't be able to help.

Since I haven't been able to find one yet, I'll give them a call tomorrow and see what happens. Boy will I feel stupid if they can send me one. If they can, I could have fixed my Marlin back in June. D'oh!

Well I gave Marlin a call. The guy from Marlin said that firing pins are restricted and can only be sent to a gunsmith that has a FFL on file with them. Plus he said they only carry 1 type if firing pin and was not aware of a "pre" 1974 or "post 1974" designation on their firing pins. So, for right now, it looks like I'm back at square 1.

Should I just try a "post 1974" and hope for the best? Anyone have any luck with a later style firing pin? I heard they won't work but I also heard there are 2 types of firing pins and now Marlin is telling me there aren't.

I'm so confused! Can anyone shed some light on this?

Just got off the phone from the gunsmith Marlin recommended, he said there is a difference in the firing pins. I should have known the phone jokey at Marlin didn't know what he was talking about. Lol

Anyways, I told him my problem. His words were "Good luck!" He said he goes through this problem at least once a week. You'd think if there are that many people looking for "pre 1974" firing pins, that someone would come forward and offer a solution.

Stuka, got one other idea for you.

If you have the pieces from your broken firing pin, contact some local tool and die shops. They may be able to use the pieces to make you a new firing pin for your rifle.

I have used them before and had to give them a credit card # to order and got the parts 2 month's later, but they were the right parts and worked great.

If all else fails try the "Marlin Owners" forum. Someone there might have a spare sitting on a shelf. You never know......

Firing pin arrived today from Numrich. Looks like they sent the right on. I will see if it works this weekend.

Great news! I'm back up and running!

The firing pin Numrich sent works great so far and needed very little fitting.
