My first choice is the AR platform which is -not- what you are looking for, but my second choice would probably be a Saiga .223 because of price and the fact that a .223 AK clone will fetch you more but without the minor improvements the Saiga has. If pure cool factor was all I wanted I'd get an AK in .223. My next choice would be a mini-14, and then after that I would look at the Kel Tek .223.
All else fails all the big companies out there sell some variant of their rifles in an auto-loading config however unsure of their caliber offerings and if they will meet your expectations. Edit: I realize now that you weren't specifying "budget". Last edited by Tangentabacus; April 30, 2013 at 10:13 PM. |

"very accurate" is going to limit you to that platform for the same dollars spent.
Accuracy with the AR platform is pretty much a function of tolerances/fit of the parts, a high quality barrel and match trigger. There are other semi-auto platforms like the SCAR, but I don't see any of them being potentially "more accurate" than the same dollars spent on a high-end AR-15.

my first choice would be an AR platform, the only one I'd even consider besides it is the FN Herstal FS2000, if you can handle the $2,000 price tag them go for it.

Find yourself a nice old Daewoo AR-100/K2 with a 1:7 twist barrel.
Mine is accurate and dependable

Yeah those two are the only ones i can think of. But if you don't mind bumping up the caliber to a .243 then look at the Remington 750. Looks like a classy hunting rifle if youre a little afraid of what others think.
Not that I ever would be

If you have changed your mind about a semi-auto....
I have a Ruger #3 in .223 & it really shoots! It has a 1:10 twist & it really likes 65gr Sierra GK's.
BTW, it has never jammed on me! LOL ...bug |

HK SL6 or 630. It has a straight wood stock and looks quite benign.
4 or 10 round magazine only. Free floated barrel and good iron sights. HK 05 scope mounts can still be had, if you like that route.

You can build a half-minute Savage with an aftermarket match barrel and stock for under a grand that'll blow away the accuracy of any AR-15 for the same money.
For equivalent dollars, bolt guns will always be capable of better accuracy. That's just the nature of bolt guns vs. semi's.

And more on topic than my last post:
If you're maybe thinking of a bolt action I'm a huge fan of the Mossberg MVP series of rifles. |
