Hi my name is Brasscollector and I am a gunaholic
What is the practical limit of the # of guns one guy owns? I see space inside my safes and assume I need to fill that void with something. My issue is a nice watch, smart phone or set of cuff links (yeah right) would just look out of place in my gun safe, you see where this is going now... The gunaholic in me says having a 308 and two 30-06s probably means I would need a 300WM to complete the 30cal family, correct? Please talk me outta this...

If you want to be talked out of a gun purchase, you're much better off sending an email to Bloomberg.
Coming here for that would be the equivalent of a recovering alcoholic touring a brewing company. So I say .300WM ahoy!!!! |

Are you just buying it to put in the safe?
Are you going to actually use it or just whistle Dixie? If you don't shoot it within thirty days, it's forfeit by the rules of the "Use it or Lose it" bylaws.

Bass you are forgetting something very important, how inconsiderate and disrespectful of you to forget what really matters, you are putting all your eggs into this basket and forgetting what is really important... Making sure you have enough to buy 5000 rounds to go along with it.

I couldn't make it 30 days with a new gun in the dead cold of January here in WI .
I would say 95% of my shooting are paper holes, and for distance the 308 will usually do just fine. It would be my first belted mag, but I couldn't pass it off at this point as any more than excessive redundancy. If things don't work out I have a friend who would salivate over it and an exchange of safe queens may be brokered at that point.

I wish I had more space for guns in my gun safe --- Guess I'll have to buy another safe.

Brass after you get the 300. Go to a recovery meeting or two then get the wsm. Another meeting or two then maybe try to find a old 300 savage. Lots more 30's out there for a true gun holic.

The heck with the calendar.
You tell the seasons by the height of the sun where ever you are. If the sun position says it's spring, then by gum it's spring. Never mind the temperature. Get out there and shoot!

Shocking, shocking I say! You actually have room in your safe!
This situation must be addressed at once!

When you have so many guns that some sit in the safe for long periods without making it to the range, that's too many guns. Start spending your money on training, range time and ammunition instead of on guns. If you're shooting all your guns on a fairly regular basis then you don't have too many. You might think about buying another one and reassessing after awhile.

It's a vicious circle.
First we start with just one or two guns, 'cause that's all we can afford, especially if we actually want to shoot them once in awhile. Then, as we get older and more productive, we start accumulating them. But then we get other interests and sell most of them in favor of buying other kinds of stuff. Sooner or later if our interests remain, we decide to get training or go to matches. Then we discover all the different kinds of shootin' activities and begin accumulating guns all over again to suit the needs. As time passes and the years add up, we do less of what we used to do. And then we have a bunch of guns and equipment sitting around collecting dust. Time to whittle down once again, only this time we don't buy other stuff with the proceeds. We spend it on doctors and prescriptions. Oh woe is us.

People think I am a member of the "Gun of the month club". If you collect certain guns, they pile up fast. When I moved to a smaller place and started auctioning off, I had 3 gun auctions with stuff related to these guns. One auction was over 100 rifles. So, now I started over and ventured into new territory. After a while, what you collect will become redundant, and you move on to something else.

I can't find any more room for my guns as my wife has her guns all over the house. When the stores are out of 22 shells, I have to go to her for supply.
Now the older kids want starter guns.

The worst case of gun-itis I ever heard of was of a guy who worked in a large gun store down the street from where I used to work.
He claimed to have over a thousand guns - at his house, his parents house, a couple of storage boxes, and probably some he forgot about. I asked him if his wife objected and he said she had left him around the 200 mark. Now, that's bad. And no, there's no point in trying to find out where he lives. Both he and the guns are long gone as this was many decades ago. So is the gun shop, come to think.

That 300 Win Mag is good winter weather gun. I find mine to be most enjoyable while wearing long underwear, a long sleeve shirt, a fleece pull over, and a heavy Carhartt jacket.
What recoil? Summer weather on the other hand, wearing a T-Shirt, it has some pop to it!

Couldn't help but stop at the range on the way home with the "new addition". Guy I bought it from gave me the last 6 rounds he had for it, 175gr SGKs. It was hovering around 80 degrees, shaded, so it was definitely t-shirt weather. To be honest, I was expecting more kick. Not that I am disappointed but I was expecting more.

I currently own three guns ... yes, only three. Granted, I am a new gun owner (this year), but my three guns provide everything I need at the moment.
My shotgun and my pistol provide home defense and my .22 rifle provides ample shooting practice and is the gun I use when I invite a friend who never shot before to join me at the range. Should I take up hunting in the future, one 30-cal centerfire rifle should be sufficient. A snub-nose revolver for carry would make sense to me but I live in Los Angeles county, so that is out of the question. I am also refraining from purchasing an AR-15 because of CA restrictions. So for the moment, three guns for me is enough, but folks here might think I'm crazy. |
