Rossi 92 in 454 Casull
I have several Rossi lever action rifles, and have been looking for a stainless one in 454 Casull for a long time. My LGS got a new blued one in, so I was going to jump on it, but upon inspection I noticed some rust on the underside of the barrel, between the barrel and the tubular magazine. I found this rather off-putting and passed on it, but now I'm reconsidering it.
So, my questions are, should I just suck it up and have the shop gunsmith see if he can remedy it, or do it myself, and does anyone have one of these or have an opinion about them in .454? I have ones in .357/38, 44 mag and .45 Colt, and like them. Thanks |

If it is minor surface rust I wouldn't worry too much. Purchased several rifles that turned the cleaning cloth a little brown. If it's pitted that is a little different story. Perhaps an appropriate discount could be negotiated.

As long as it's a newer one, it should be a good gun. Rossi stopped making them in .454 for a couple of years because they were breaking frequently due to not being able to handle the full-power .454 loads. They only within the last year started producing them again, presumably modified.

I agree with Daggitt, if it's minor it wouldn't bother me. I had an older 92 in .454 and that thing was downright unpleasant to shoot with standard Casull loads. I've shot lots of big rifles, that's the only one that ever made me flinch.

Thanks for the input. I'm going for it. I don't know about the older models, which I had read were problematic, but this one has a nice looking recoil pad on it.

I was thinking I could shoot 45 colt through this gun as well. Correct?

Mine was one of the older models, it had one of the honey comb style rubber pads on it. Didn't do much. I really can't say about the new models but mine would not feed .45 Colt.

There's an idea. I need to start reloading anyway.
