Older 10/22, info please.

I have an older Ruger 10/22 (my guess is 80's) with a walnut stock with metal buttplate. On average is this rifle worth more than the new 10/22s with beach stocks and plastic parts? Also, is it worth keeping this one in its original form or are 10/22s less collectible because of how many were made? Thanks, foggy.

if you could find a collector it might be worth a little more, but as 10/22's go unless its a limtied edition not a whole lot more. you could always race it up with a new stock and add ons and just keep the original parts, I have an older one and all i did was a trigger job on it and left it stock. just lots of fun a accurate enough to take tree rats all day long.

RimfireCentral is really the place to ask about .22s. I wouldn't think your rifle is worth a whole lot more than a newer version. Mine was a 1976 that was pretty beat up. With a new Green Mountain barrel, trigger job, good scope she shoots a whole lot better. The walnut stock is about to get a second coat of Tru Oil in a few minutes.
