Sparks from barrel?

I had someone tell me that they have sparks (in addition to flash) coming from the front of their full-sized Kimber. He's shooting lead SWCs. I can't remember what powder he reloads with.

Any ideas of what would cause this?

It isn't sparks but individual particles of powder burning as they leave the barrel.

Too slow a powder will do this, also poor primer and/or poor crimp. Was this in daylight?
Find out his recipe(powder/cal/proj.weight etc) and we can help!

But maybe your buddy likes the effect

I had some factory loads do that out of my Sig P225 the other day ... can't remember if they were S&B, Win USA, or Rem UMC ... I have a few more of each ... I'll pay attention next time. By the way, these were in an indoor range.

Sometimes a residual piece of media will also put on a light show.

I'll second Bullwinkle. I'm pretty sure it was some cleaning media left in the case.
