Smith & Wesson model 3913

So i was going to pick one of these up for CC- seem to fit ok in my hand and i absolutely love 2nd and 3rd gen Smiths. Price was reasonable at $350- but then i hit a BRICK wall. The guy said these were always referred to as the "Lady" Smith&Wesson. Has anyone else heard this? The size is perfect for a cc gun- but i don't want people talking about my girly gun

As long as it isn't pink...

... or covered in "Hello, Kitty" decals, who cares?

Are you really that worried about what others might say?

I have the 469, not much difference, do what I did, practice, practice, practice then go to the range, first one that giggles, bet him/her $50 and shoot rings around them. They usually shut up after that.

The Lady Smith is a special model:

If it doesn't look like that it isn't a Lady Smith.

That makes a huge difference-he must have thought that was the gun. Thanks for clearing that up

Take care of your lady and your lady will take care of you. Are you planning to open carry? Im thinking if its for concealed carry you should be ok. If you are gonna let your phobia of carrying a lady smith and your buddies laughing then stand between you and probably one of the greatest carry pistols of all times the next guy is lucky. I mean its small, light, accurate, dependable and feels good to carry. Come to think of it hmmm. BTW 9mm is a lady cartridge anyway anything short of a 50cal for CCW makes you a girly man anyway.

There was a special run of the 3913 that was labeled "LadySmith." I own one, and it doesn't make my chest hair fall out. In fact, I shoot it very well for (what I consider) such a small gun.

The LadySmith moniker has been used several times, to refer to several different guns. The Model 65 LadySmiths were truly marvelous fixed-sight 3" Magnums.

Not all 3913s are Lady Smiths. regardless, they are great guns. If the gun has been well cared for, don't pass up the deal. Good buy.

Who's more macho, the guy wanting to look bad, or the guy who's comfortable in his own skin?

As previous posts have indicated, the "standard" 3913 had the black grips. Then SW introduced the Lady Smith model which had the gray grips. I have one. Great concealed gun. And I still have hair on my chest, too!

But, apparently some guys liked the look of the gray grips but not the name so SW produced the same gun without the Lady Smith name on it, known as the 3913 NLS. I can't remember what the NLS stands for, but it unofficially stands for Not a Lady Smith. There's a picture of one in the link below:

A 3913 in decent shape for $350. Dang, I'd buy it if it had Girlie Man on the slide. As you now know, there are different 3913s.

I have a 3913LS and as far as I can tell my tightie whities still fit...perfectly.

I had a chance for buying a NIB 3913LS for about $300 and passed it.

As far as gender stereotypes - get with the 21st century. Guys loved the original. The NLS was made for the insecure.

Now as for the Lady Smith. If your buddies make fun of it . Just take their money in a little shooting match. 3913LS are one mean little Bi%#h

Actually, the LadySmith models tend to fetch a higher price in my neck of the woods than plain 3913's.

S&W 3913 Ladysmith models, early 1990s, local gun shop...

I remember a Guns & Ammo article in the early 1990s saying how "great" the 3913 LS model was & how it was worth buying for either a male or female shooter.
I shot a rental 3913 9x19 pistol around the same time. It had a few jams & problems but I was using cheap range reloads and the pistol hadn't been properly cleaned/serviced.
The LS models did have some slick design features but as a left hander, I was not that thrilled with S&W 3rd gen models.
I do recall a local female gun shop manager bringing up the S&W Ladysmith models during a TV news story(that local stations seem to run every 4/5 years when a "violent crime wave" hits). She bluntly told me how most of the industry models are over-priced sales gimmicks and are not much better than standard revolvers or semi auto pistols, .

Clyde
ps; If you want a "improved" 3913 9mm, see the ASP2000 or maybe track down an original ASP custom model.

LadySmith & Wesson 3913...

Well...
Will Smith Carried one in Men In Black.

I wouldn't worry about it. It's a gun, not a purse. Chill out and shoot.

Would you think twice about having this Model 60 in .357 Magnum?

Not really a "Chick Gun" if you ask me.

+1; both the 3913LS and 3913NL/NLS (I've seen it either way) were premium models that sold for a higher MSRP and actually have a slightly different frame and slide than a standard M3913. Look at rptrower's picture and note how the frame is shaped around the front of the trigger guard and how the slide is cut around the muzzle. These changes were supposedly made so the guns would be easier to draw.

The 3913LS also came with a cute purple soft case with light grey fabric handles and embroidered "LadySmith" logo. I'm not sure if S&W included such a gimme with the 3913NL.

Due to the enhancements and the models' relative rarity, these guns have real cachet with S&W collectors, which seems true for only a handful of the 3rd-gen metal-frame automatics.

FWIW S&W also sold several other similar models: the M3914 (blued M3913), M3953 (DAO M3913 w/o decocker/safety lever), M3954 (blued M3953), M908S (M3913 with plastic sights and guide rod and no RH-side decocker/safety lever), and the M908 (blued M908S). These guns are considered less desirable than the M3913 and sell for less money, but aren't necessarily easier to find because fewer were sold.

I always thought the slanted dust cover on the 3913 Lady Smith made for a very sexy look. I always understood the "NL" on the 3913NL to mean "no logo". Meaning it was the same shape as the Lady Smith as opposed to the shape of the standard 3913, just without the Lady Smith logo.

To this day, I wish I had bought the one I handled at a gun show a few years. I haven't seen one since.

I have a 3913NL and it came with just the normal stuff that you normally get with all S&Ws. It shoots great , but it spends most of the time in the safe now.
