WA Bear
WA Bear (regular season) opens in a month. I need to get a new mind set. Usually I just hit the hills and hope for the best. Over the years, I've seen a bunch but all with cubs. I am looking for tips on finding the ol' man. I don't really want to shoot BoBo or mom. Any suggestions?
thanks, dean

Hit the north cascades off highway 2 up around Gold Bar. If you hike in more than 4 miles then you will have a good chance. I've seen a few up in there hiking and all have been while I was coming down from above off a ridge. They like to rumage through the brush in the clearings. That is the best area I know of. But the wdfw claims that the vail tree farm on wheyerhouser land out by centralia has a really high number. They are supposedly destroying the young fir trees and hunters are encouraged to bear hunt to thin the population on the vail tree farm. Good luck.
