UTG Reflex sight and flip-to-side magnifier - any good?

Hey guys. I was thinking about picking up a combo like this for a friend's AR-15 as a gift. I like the idea of having a reflex or red dot sight, then having the ability to switch to a little more magnification when needed. Does anyone have any experience with this guy, is it great? is it a gimmick?

UTG is for airsoft guns, .22 at most. I wouldn't use it on a centerfire cartridge gun.

Hehehe .22 at most? Then it's perfect for an AR

That's what I figured. Personally I know a good scope can cost as much as the rifle, but I figured it might be fun for plinking.

I personally have not tried them, but I have heard only neutral to bad reviews on the whole flip to side/slide to side set up on the magnifiers.

That's on some decent gear, I would use UTG but I would not do the magnifier. Just go with either a reflex or a scope (or both).

A lot of guys don't have the best opinion of UTG products. But hey, I'm not going into a warzone so it will probably work fine for me at the range.
