SigP229 Pre Ban Magazine Compatibility
Can someone help me out? I purchased a 9mm Sig P229 12 months ago. I can purchase a 9mm, P299 13 round pre ban magazine or a 9mm, 15 round P226 pre ban magazine. Both are factory Sig magazines. Will the Sig P226 magazine function properly in the P229? Unfortunately, living in Massachusetts makes it difficult to own a high capacity magazine. Your help and experience would be helpful.

Yes, the P226 mag will function in the P229, though it will extend slightly more than the standard P229 mag.

I live in Mass also and all I have to say is good luck finding pre ban Sig mags. It's has been no easy feat for me as I have yet to come across some. Beretta 92/M9 mags are much easier to come by. I have three 15rd pre ban Beretta mags I was able to get my hands on for $20 each. If you do happen to find some place that has them send me a message because I would also be interested.

Will the new P229 magazines fit? They are 15 rounds. I just bought a new P229 with 2 -15 round mags, just a few months ago.

The new mags are wider than the old; so no, they will not fit in the older frame.

The two 15 round P226 Mags that I purchased from Kentuckey Imports fit my P229 nicely. I loaded three 9mm rounds into the magazines and cycled them into and out of the chamber.. The final test will be at the range. The mags do extend about an 1/8 of an inch but this is not a problem. The Sig is my home defense handgun..I carry a 9mm S&W M&P Shield. I have shot about 1,000 rounds through each and find then both to be very reliable and accurate for their given point of use..

Thanks for the info Dave9969,
I was able to find X-Grips at the site that will attach to the bottom of my P226 magazines. They will cover the 1/4 inch extention and make for a more comfortable shot. |

Do you Mass residents realize that no legit company will ship hi-cap mags to Mass? It's illegal to own them as well. I am stunned and surprised that a business shipped them to you!
I'm a former Mass resident myself, and now live in the CT, which now sucks equally |
