Vented Mini 14 Barrel shroud

Other than a great "commando" looking piece, is it worth the hassle of putting it on ? Taking off the front sight, banging it off with a rubber mallet, and worse yet...REINSTALLING it ?

The piece is an Eagle Arms "slide on" ....after you get the front sight removed.

I might just get used to a hot barrel, never hurt me before.

Any suggestions ?

Unless you're shooting full auto or cranking off a lot of rounds as fast as you can pull the trigger, I can't see the barrel getting hot enough to worry about. Still, if you want a shroud, look into the one made by Ramline. Very easy to install, and you sure as heck don't have to remove the front sight.

the idea being that the shroud will remove heat quicker, and reduce the normal vertical stringing of shots with the Mini as the barrel heats up. The second 'benefit' is to make the barrel more rigid, eliminating some of the harmonics that cause wider groups.

Whether or not any of this is valid or bogus, I dont personally know. I do know that when I added a John Mason rubber butt extender/pad and their flash hider, my groups shrunk. wish I knew why, but they did.
