Sometimes, the firing pin needs to be reshaped on rimfires after many hundreds or thousands of rounds fired. Also check the hammer spring or striker sping, whichever applies.

Try cleaning the edges of the chamber mouth, where the cartridge rim sets.

I had this on an old Glenfield Model 60 or a Marlin Model 99 (both were close to identical inside) this Summer and it was cured by removing the bolt and giving it a soak down with carb cleaner and scrubbing the snot out of both of them with a tooth brush.

I did pay close attention to cleaning the edges of the chamber mouth, where the cartridge rim sets like Bill DeShivs said, and I think the attention to detail cleaning made all the difference.

A good forum for these old Marlins that I highly recommend is: http://www.rimfirecentral.com/forums...play.php?f=217

These guys take their Marlin rimfires very seriously!
