Pfeifer rifle barrel maker ?
Have a Mauser 98 (1941 mfr.) made up sometime after WW 2.
Plain jane stock. Blueing is fairly worn. Timney trigger. Had to have boltface opened up from .483 to ca. .513 diam. for the Newton cartridge and have it headspaced. Chambered in .35 Newton. Barrel is stamped " S & S Pfeifer & Son" A couple of gun people I've talked to have 'heard' of Pfeifers. But no specific historic evidence. This rifle came from east of Sioux City, IA. Anyone know anything about the Pfeifers? Thanks, Wylie |

The Pfeifer Rifle Company of California is listed in Gun Digests of the 1950s and an old book I have on custom rifles of that period. There are a lot of mentions of Pfeifer barrels in magazine articles of the era. The book gives Mr Pfeifer's name as "Joe."
I think S&S Pfeifer & Son is a different outfit. |
