S&W 642 shooting 5-6" right

I just bought a 642. Great little gun. However it is shooting 5-6" to the right at 10 yds. After closer examination I have noticed that the barrel is screwed in just a little too far. This is confirmed by the extractor rod not lining up perfectly with the barrel underlug.

I e-mailed S&W qa yesterday. No repley yet.

Wonderfull.
You definately have a warrent for warrenty. They should pay the shipping both ways. Before you ship it.....look carefully in the very clean bore and see if there isn't a ring visible inside bout even with the barrel/frame abutment. Usually is if barrel is overtorqued. Usually seen tho when the sight is straight or leanin the other way. Just curious.

machman:

Try giving S&W a call. Many large companies just don't do e-mail well.

I called S&W today. They are sending me a return package. He said it would only take 5-6 days. Wow. Last time I sent a gun off, It was a Taurus and it told 8 weeks.

I wonder if they might do a free action job or chamfer the cylinders for my trouble. After all, it is a brand new gun. What do you think?

They will happily do an action job or a chamfer job, but expect to pay their going shop rate for it (which is quite reasonable, by the way).

1-800-331-0852 will get you that information in a flash. That is the toll-free number for the Performance Center. All gunsmithing is handled through them. One large advantage is that your warrantee is kept intact.
