I need (want) a shotgun .
It will mainly be used for IDPA side matches , not house duty . Where I believe the 870 is king . I believe an auto loader is the best for competition . I like the 11-87 police , but am concerned about reliability problems with lighter loads . I like the Super90 but a little pricey and there are alot of people that Poo Poo them . I like ScatterGun Tech. autos but even more $$$ . What would you guys recomend ..... |

Maybe a used 1100 is the ticket here, SuperDave. Not real easy to find, most folks hang on to them, but very durable and reliable.

Dave,
Take a look at the Beretta 1201FP. I'm not sure what they are going for these days but I got mine way back when for about .50% the price of a Benelli. Love mine, and everyone I know that has one love their's. ------------------ Schmit GySgt, USMC(Ret) NRA Life, Lodge 1201-UOSSS "Si vis Pacem Para Bellum" |

Yeah, the Beretta might be something to look into. A fairly large local PD just switched over from 870's to the Beretta and they love them. Admittedly they're likely using heavier buck and slug loads though. Not sure how the lighter loads cycle.
This months "Guns and Weapons for law Enforcement" has an article on them too although I ahven'y gotten to it yet. Last time I priced them they were in the mid $600's, just a bit more than the 11-87. I don't know how much you'd gain by getting an 1100. As Dave said they aren't all that easy to find anymore and not all that cheap either. Unless you want to use a 28" vent rib gun with a short mag tube you're going to have to do some retrofitting to one anyway before using it for IDPA so there's an additional cost factor involved there too. |

SuperDave,
Schmit and General Tso are right. I've had my 1201 for a year and a half now and love it. It has been reliable with slugs, 00 buck, and 7 1/2 field loads. I've used it for competition, took a 200 lb. boar with it, and even shot skeet with it once! It's surprisingly accurate with slugs and recoil is very manageable. Mine has the 20" barrel instead of the 18", I felt it would be more versatile. Got it used for $450 and have seen others offered for the same range. Feel free to E-mail me with any questions about it. Patrick ------------------ Think! |

The 1201FP is a good buy IMHO. Buddy of mine bought one with rifle sights, NIB, for $459 at a local gun show.

Those are much better prices than I recalled but it's been a while since I looked at them. I'm probably remembering wrong. Hmm, under $500 huh? I may have to add one back on to my shotgun wish list....
