Help a fellow rifleman out?

Standing here hat in hand, respectfully requesting entrance to the "where the shoots are" loop. Back when I shot competition archery, (late 70's-late 80's) you could go to a shoot and find flyers for hundreds more shoots around the state. These shoots weren't too expensive either.

The only firearm competitive shoots I can find listed are gonna cost me $80.00 + ammo costs + range fee's. I've got a good assortment of .22lr rifles, and pistols. I suppose I'd have the gear for a cowboy shoot. Which btw looks like fun to me.

I personally get a huge kick out of just sitting and punching paper at 30yrds or so.

I live in Mid-Michigan, and can travel if need be. I'm on fixed income, and "big dollar shoots" are over my paygrade.

Minimum, just point me in a direction to search for small time competitions.

Thanks for your help and understanding.

You could try this, www.appleseedinfo.org
They allow you to shoot one day or 2 days. You will learn about early American History and they will test your rifleman skills

Silhouette matches are great fun, centerfire or rimfire.
Here's a list of clubs that have them.

Check out www.mcrgo.org the MCRGO website. They have a list of ranges by county. Look up the sites of nearby ranges and see what they are shooting.
There is quite a bit of shooting activity in lower MI.

Hello, Howdy Doody. I have been away from competition for awhile also. I used to shoot schutzen matchs with the Michigan Schuetzen Society, but they have pretty much disbanded with the death of John Grant. There is talk of reviving these fun and informal single-shot matches..possibly at the Columbiaville club. There are CBA (Cast Bullet Association) matches at Washtenaw Sportmans club, as well as Sihlouette (.22 rifle & handgun)
.22 L.R. benchrest also. Poker & plate shoots for handguns. I might take in some of these myself...Beautiful club on 190 acres. Cowboy action doesn't interest me that much..though on Saterdays , the Lapeer Sportsmans club hosts a cowboy long-range match..don't need to dress all up & it's 200yds, off bench 0r X sticks at gong..I would like to give this a whirl..sounds like fun.
I have been trying to raise interest in a Mini-Palma match for rimfire. Linden Sporstmans club has varmint league, as well as as black-powder matches. Best of luck!

Michigan is big on CMP GSM (Vintage Military) Matches. You can start out with a GSM Clinic and match for about $20 and they often furnish the ammo.

If you are into Garands, Springfields, Carbines, or other surplus rifles this is the way to go. Most clubs have loaner rifles for those who don't have one. They'll also line you up to get your own CMP Rifles.

Or if you are into Rimfire Sporter Rifle shooting

GSM Clinics

All the above are in Mich. check the CMP website for surrounding states.

Depending where you are in Mid Mi. There are a few clubs around GR that have a lot of competition shooting. Rockford has Skeet, Trap, CMP, IDPA, Cowboy, and pistol leagues. Soon to have 5 Stand.
