I think the ppc boys preferred the K frames. The cylinder looks shorter than a normal M-28, wonder if it is a .38 spc. I've never shot an N frame DA as well as I do a K frame. Interesting gun tho.

That puppy would make one heck of a bowling pin gun.

PPC is still shot some places, but not as popular as it once was. ICORE had pretty much taken its place as premier Revolver competitions.

PPC

Not so much as it is more of a challenge to hit a "X" ring about 2.25" wide at 50 yards than it is to hit an 8" circle at 10 or 15 yards. As a country, our skills are not at the top of the heap. Look at the winners at the Olympic Pistol shooting events over the last 50 years and see how few are from the USA.

http:I have one similar to that one but with a shorter barrel. It was built as a carry gun and the 28 was drilled out to 44 special, there are photos here.

Definitely a PPC gun. Odd that it's not a K-frame.

Used PPC revolvers on the open market can be a mixed bag: True PPC revolvers were built by knowledgeable and experienced gunsmiths, and their guns definitely delivered. There are some, though, that might simply look like a PPC revolver because someone slapped a bull barrel & rib on it. When in the market for a PPC revolver, then, it's best to find one from a known 'smith, IMO. AFAIK, the late Steve Velchoff (d. mid-80s) was a respected gunsmith who did some nice revolver work, so I suspect this piece is the real deal.

A note on PPC revolvers already touched on by others - despite looking like something Darth Vader would carry, they're target revolvers, designed to shoot target loads, and would be a poor choice for hunting, silhouette or even HD.

Thank you but all credit goes to the gun smith that’s no longer with us. I told him what I wanted and this came back 6 months later.
