22tcm availability and performance.

hello all,
I while back I read about the 22TCM designed and marketed by armscor. at the time the only gun offered in this particular caliber was a RIA 1911 which also came with a 9mm barrel to help utility while ammo was still hard to find. however it really was not all that hard to find it online. I discounted this gun as I was not a big 1911 fan at the time and biased against RIA in particular but today my brother in law started talking about it and was intrigued enough to decide to revisit this particular caliber but sadly now, info seems to have all disappear. an LGS still has a listing for the RIA 1911 but is listed as out of stock, they always had ammo but seems like it's out of stock as well. google search revealed zip for ammo.

so did this round already die out and fall out of favor or is this just a product of gun grab 2013?

also does anyone have any info on ballistics and handgun tolerances of bullet options like 5.56 standard bullets?

I'm betting the gun scare is the reason everything is out of stock on it. Those who bought it when it first came out went and bought up all the ammo when the scare started.
However, I also don't anticipate the round being around for too long. First, because it's proprietary at this point. And secondly, as you said yourself, bias toward RIA.
It's probably a good thing that they include the 9mm barrel. That way in a couple years people will only have the .22TCM barrel as a paperweight and not the whole gun.

Ammo is available from Armscor or Cheaper Than Dirt along with a couple of other places. Due to the 22 TCM being a niche caliber, ammo availability hasn't seemed to be affected by the great ammo grab of 2013. That could change when the available stock of 22TCM ammo is exhausted. At which time, I could see one of two things happening. Either due to low demand of TCM guns and ammo, both are discontinued or due to demand of more popular calibers, the TCM guns and ammo production is set aside for the time being. Either one doesn't bode well for the TCM. I have one, and it's an interesting round. No loading dies are yet available, as far as I know, so for now it's strictly a factory ammo or sending your brass back to Armscor for them to reload for you. I find the round to be, ballistics wise, similar to the 218 Bee in a autoloader package.
