Don't try to confuse me, I came that way.
I saw the original post and figured there would be a follow up that put it all together. That's what I get for figuring. Sam |

The problem is: he posted a formatted table of reloading costs, but when saved it took out all the "extra" spaces and ended up being a blob of numbers...
He should have used the "list" command...
And it would have looked something like the above... Instead it looked like this: Powder cost Primer cost Bullet cost $18.00 $12.00 $7.00 $18.00 $12.00 $7.00 $18.00 $12.00 $7.00

Yes he did and using the list formating option looked like it would take me about 1/2 a year to reenter the data I had stuffed into an excel spreadsheet...NO THANKS.
So I made my own html page on another site and if you want to see the costs broken down for up to 5K rounds ( I made this for kicks and to help people understand the benifts, if any, of reloading cost wise. I expect some will disagree with some of the assumptions but hey they are just a guidline to help new folks out. http://shiroikuma.50megs.com/reload.htm Unfortuntely the page starts to repeat itself after the 9mm section so stop after that. I'm not wasting more time editing the source code if MS office won't save it correctly. By the way this thread has already recieved more replies than most of the other ones I've started. He he. shiro |

Tis human nature to slow down and watch train wrecks.
Your perserverence in the face of chaos is commendable. And, thanks for going to the effort to present the info. Sam.....still confused, normal. |

Wow! My costs for .38 spl doing about 850 fps with 158 gr copper plated bullet are something like the following:
AA#5: $102.00/8lb, $13.00/lb 158gr .38cal CPRN WCB bullets: $409/10,000, $53.00/1000 (shipping included) Starline .38 spl brass: $100/1000 (high estimate with shipping--can't find receipt) WSP: $75/5000 (up from $65 last year!!) Taxes included. Per round this comes out to about Powder 1.2 cents (6.6 gr) Bullet 4.1 cents Primer 1.5 cents Estimating brass will last at least 5 loads to be conservative, cost is 2 cents. That is 8.8 cents per round or $4.40 per 50 or $88/1000 loaded to my specs. I may go back to AA#2 which is the same price, but requires only 4.8 gr per round taking the cost down to 4.25 per 50 or $85/1000. |

Keep in mind that I live in Alaska and I can't order bulk bullets as shipping would kill me. I have to buy primers, powder and bullets locally.
Besides it is just a rough estimate. my estimated costs were $5.30/ 50 in 9mm (not counting brass costs) I used 1 lb of titegroup per 1,000 in my estimate I think using 5.0 grains per cartridge with 7,000 grains a lb it's actually 1400 reloads a pound so cost would be a little lower actually. Were you calculating with copper bullets? I think my prices were for copper plated ones. You really bank the money on the more expensive ammo like .45 win mag, 44 mag or 10mm. Those pay to reload. I almost never see any centerfire other than 9mm for less than $11/ 50 here. |

Yes, I use copper plated bullets exclusively. I'm too lazy to clean out lead. If I took a deep breath and ordered 20K copper plated bullets from West Coast bullets the price would go down to 3.8 cents per bullet. I live in the SF Bay area so shipping is minimal. The bullets themselves are $350/10,000 in lots of 10K or more, the shipping for up to 20,000 is about $50. Guy |

Thanks Bompa but as Barry's says on their page
"Free Shipping!! Retail orders are shipped FREE to the continental US!" That leave AK and HI out in the cold or warm tropical breezes whichever. They all say that. I fixed a couple of errors on the page just now and added .45 acp for giggles. The nice thing about doing a spreadsheet is you can change any variable like bullet cost and it recalculates everything in a 1/2 second. shiro Last edited by shiroikuma; March 31, 2002 at 10:56 PM. |
