Hello. I will soon be the proud owner of my first shotgun, a 590 Mariner.

Should I be running over to Academy, or are their some good internet bargains in ammo shopping?

I figure I want to try out 00 buck and slugs.

PV, if it's your first shotgun, I suggest using light loads and maybe getting some lessons. Bad habits are hard to break. And, heavy loads combined with not good form can build flinches PDQ.

S&B makes cheap buckshot for the 12 bore -- for good prices on case quantities, check out http://www.ammodeal.com

I like Ammoman as well.

A word of caution on the S&B Buck - although perfectly reliable, the pattern produced by those shells will be twice as wide as an American made shell.

This has held true regardless of the shotgun I have used. Not a bad thing for very close range work (5-15 yards), but too dispersed beyond that.
