.223 Brass

Hey guys, just wondering if 21lbs of Unprocessed range brass is worth $70. There's a scrap yard that collects tons of these brass, and they have them bagged up. I don't know if that's a reasonable price for brass. Mix of military brass, and commercial.

That is around 1500 pieces from my estimation. I am assuming all 5.56/223.
Cartridge loaded: 182 gr
Projectile: 55 gr
Powder: 27 gr
So brass and primer are around 100 gr each.
7000 gr to a pound, so 70 cases per pound; times 21 = 1,470

For mixed unprocessed that sounds like a reasonable-to-good price. If they were all mil-spec, it would be a very good deal, if you can process them.

Mixed calibers I assume.. $70.00 for 21lbs is about right to the high side. Much depends on what you hope to do with it.

If your getting it from a scrap yard you may want inspect some. Anything I bring to scrap place is scrap and should not be reloaded.

I wouldn't do it. When I take a bucket full of brass to the scrap yard, it's only because the brass in the bucket is trash and should be recycled.

223 brass

I think that you have to be a member to look at this, but there is an ad on cast bullets for 223 brass. $55/1000 shipping included. I don't know if it is proper to repost that there but I've copied the ad below.

*******************************************

My friend Donald is approaching 80 and would like to get rid
of this stuff.

5.7x28 $65/500
9mm Luger $40/1000
38 Spl. $65/1000
40 S&W $40/1000
45 ACP $55/1000
223 $55/1000

270 $39/100
30-06 $39/100

Shipping will be done via UPS flat rate boxes. The shipping cost
has been included above.

Please order by mail. Your letter should include:
very brief statement of what you are ordering.
mailing label with your name and address. One label per order.
self-addressed, stamped envelope.
bank draft, postal money order or some other similar form of
payment.

Send letter to:
Donald Trembley
5289 N. Glaspie Road
Flagstaff, Arizona 86004

No partial orders.
No personal checks.
No refunds. No returns.

Self-addressed envelope will be mailed back when order is shipped or
used to return payment if all the brass has been sold.

Mailing label will be used for your shipment. All packages will be
sent using Post Office medium size flat rate boxes.

Brass is range pickup. Not sorted by manufacturer.

***********************************

My understanding is that there is well over a ton of it. The fellow, I think, is really hard of hearing which is why there is no phone number. I seem to remember months ago someone posting about being very happy with buying something.

Thanks guys, I asked where they got the brass and they pointed me to a local range.

These guys literally throw away perfect commercial brass. I talked to the owner, and he told me I can take all the barrels of brass for myself free of charge!

All the brass are Remington and PMC once fired brass. Now I literally have bag fulls I don't know what to do with!

Anything I bring to scrap place is scrap and should not be reloaded

Pay close attention to this. I am the same,When i have reloaded my brass for what i consider the last safe time. I do not throw it in the recycle barrel at the range. My concern is it will be cleaned up,sold and reloaded by someone else. I take my brass to the scrap yard. It has been used for the last time and to think someone else loaded it again and something happened to them is no good. There are to many other places to go buy good used brass. Don't take chances with your eyes, fingers, ect, ect.

Scrapyards in my area are currently paying $2.71/lb for it so his cost is around $57.00 so he's making a 20% Gross Profit on it.
For those with calculators $57.00 X 1.2 does not equal gross profit.

For those saying not to reload brass from a scrap yard.

The same caution should be used when collecting brass from anywhere.
You should be able to tell the difference between brass that has the original primer and brass that looks like it has been reloaded multiple times..
You should also be able to tell brass that has gone through a machinegun.

Jeffrey I would suggest processing and selling , but having lived on Guam myself for about 5 years when in Navy I am well aware of what shipping charges are there

Scrap versus once fireds?

Scrap versus once fireds?
Knowing that Guam is a island US possession in the middle of an ocean and has a huge US military presence, and relatively nil good ol' boys reloading the empties, are these likely new once fireds? If yes, and there simply is not a market for once fireds on Guam, therefore they sell as scrap, then you can downplay the posted scrap notions.
