I had a post on art of the rifle about a .270 being enough for plains game, answers came back no. .338 seems to be everyones favorite, I read the post on Africa seems everyone used a .338
too. Could I use a 300 Win Mag with a 200 grain Nosler Partition for this kind of hunting? I had a post on another forum like this and a gentleman used a 300 Win Mag on 3 safaris with great sucess.

My dad used a .300 Win Mag using 180 gr Win Fail Safes on our most recent safari. Kudu and zebra were the biggest bodied of the 7 animals taken and they dropped quickly. If you take out the opposite shoulder, it doesn't really matter what you hit them with, they will go down. There was an article in the recent SCI magazine about a guy who shot 2 cape buffalo, lion and hippo with a .300 Win Mag on a recent safarri!! To me that is asking for trouble, but like I said before, it's all about placement.

Good luck and good hunting!!

.308s and .30-06s do well all the time, so I understand. I cannot see why a 300 mag would not.

i rather like the 300 win mag in the 200 gr nosler partitions.its got lots of power and it is the most comfortable to shoot of all the magnums.i think it will take care of most critters up to 800 lbs.
