.38 Special

I have picked up a fair quantity of 140 grain Sierra Sport King JHP bullets at a very attractive price.
I have plenty of new, unfired brass that has been sized and primed.
Powders I have on hand are Blue Dot, 2400, SR4756, Unique and H110

Are these powders suitable for this cartridge? If so, a starting load suggestion?

From Steve's Pages, Use with caution:

137-140 gr 38Spcl

Blue Dot From 7.1 grains to 9.2 grains
2400 From 9.4 grains to 11.0 grains
SR-4756 From 5.4 grains to 5.9 grains
Unique From 4.1 grains to 6.4 grains
No listing for H110

H110 is a magnum powder and is ignition touchy so you just can't run it down at .38 Special pressures without it squibbing out or creating other issues. The Blue Dot and 2400 will run, but are also more in their element in the magnum range.

The question I have is what is your intended purpose and in what length of barrel?

Go with the 4756 or Unique.

Ditto the Unique and 4756, but I prefer still faster powders with most of my .38 spl loads.
