Who carries a 10mm auto in the field?

Considered getting one based on my love of the outdoors. From what I understand, you can get almost .357 power. And hold many more of those little shiny things. Dont wanna spend more than $800. Glock 20, Tangfolio EAA Witness I think they are around $700. What can I expect in ammo costs if I am to practice with this hot round. Basically tell me everything you know and then some...thanks in advance fellas.

Great round, but can be pricey. Look into reloading.

I had a GLOCK 29, and love it. It was too "thick" for my taste, but was a nice pistol. Accurate, powerful, reliable.

Dan Wesson also sells 1911 style pistols in 10mm.

Yeah I know about the Dan Wesson but thought they start in the neighborhood of $1200. Pretty nice guns from what I've seen.

If not into reloading, Double Tap makes some "real" 10m loads that are not priced too bad in boxes of 50. Below are some of my chrono results with it from about 4 years ago (when ammo was considerable cheaper than it is now!):

10mm Double Tap loads out of stock Glock 29 barrel.

135 grain JHP: 1,481 fps

165 grain Gold Dot: 1,302 fps

180 grain Golden Sabre: 1,247 fps

200 grain XTP: 1,137 fps

220 grain cast: 1,028 fps

I put my 10mm 1911 build on hold for the time being - but I'm looking forward to making it a field gun when I get it together.

My Colt SS Delta Elite 10mm is one of my main field guns. As another poster opined, it shines best as a reloader's caliber. I had tons of brass, since from about 1990 'til about 1999 the LE agency I worked for used the S&W M1076 10mm.
Now it's sorta fun to be retired and benefitting from all that brass I picked up over the years.
The Hornady 180 or 200 gr. XTP make great bullets for deer, hogs, etc. I've not been fortunate enough to take a deer with it yet, but will eventually. A great field holster is the Bianchi Military style with the flap.

Glock 20 and Tangfolio EAA Witness are cheaper than $700, at least where I am at. Less than $600 for the Glock, and I got an EAA witness match in 9mm (match barrel and adjustable sights) for around $500. My EAA is a great gun and is very accurate. I would say it is a tough call between what I like more my EAA or my HK p30. I have not shot the EAA in 10mm though. The Glock I have, it felt good. A good site that is all 10mm is www.10mmtalk.com. Also check out some used S&W 10xx. You can usually get some of them for cheap. The only thing is some of them are more rare and fetch more money (10mmtalk has a market dedicated to the 10mm). Oh and ++ on Uncle Ted loving his 10mm

I paiod $525 for my G29 NIB. I love it, but due to ammo cost I don't shoot it much.

Was going to say Uncle Ted but you guys beat me to it. I believe he carries that Glock more than anything at least on his TV show.

The submachine gun (sometimes abbreviated "SMG") appeared during the later stages of WWI and was a product of trench warfare. By 1918, fighting in the trenches had become a clumsy and brutal art, involving grenades, pistols, sharpened entrenching tools, and bayonets. The Italians were the first to have a submachine gun in the war, the Beretta 1918, which beat the Bergmann MP18 by a couple of months to service in 1918. It had a traditional wooden stock, a 25-round box magazine, and fired at 900 rounds per minute.

I've been carrying a 10mm in the field for many years. I've carried a G20, a G29 and, more recently, my Dan Wesson Razorback 1911 deer hunting for several years now. When hunting, I keep it loaded with the hottest load I can find with the heaviest bullet. For me, that's the Doubletap 200gr XTP.
