Been thinking of turning my old wingmaster into a home defense shotgun and haven't found a source for 18" barrels. Any input? I've seen the mag tube extenders and such at Cheaper then Dirt but no barrels. Maybe I'm missing something. Thanks. Clint

You can get 18" barrel with bead sight made by Mossberg for about $80 or the Remington 18" Express barrel for about $110.

It took some time for me to locate a Remington ORIGINAL 18". Call Brownells and ask for a REMINGTON 18" bead barrel. It was around $100.00 (last year) and they had around 15 in stock. For some strange reason they dont list this barrel in the catalog or on the internet. It is however the same barrel which comes standard on the Remington HD!

Most gun shops, especially those that handle a lot of police turnins, have old riot bbls on hand. Call around a little.

Also, an extended mag is nice on a HD tool but not mandatory. Expertise is, so get plenty of practice, then buy what bellsnwhistles you want.

Hey fellers,

I'v been thinking of doing the same thing as Clint. Which would be better for an HD gun--the 18" beaded barrel or the 20" rifle sighted barrel with Improved Cylinder?

Clint and Guyon, I'd say the 20" improved cyl. rifle sighted version.

I think you can get that barrel configuration with a 3" chambered Rem Choke barrel. This barrel works on the 2 3/4" receiver with 2 3/4" shells or with 3" shells if you have the 3" receiver.

Regards! DaMan

Go to www.cabelas.com. They have the afore mentioned Mossberg brand for Remington replacement barrels. 18.5", fixed cylinder bore for about $85-87 (my Cabelas catalog is at home and I'm at work). I have one and it's excellent quality. It's my understanding from several other threads that it's made by Remington for Mossberg.

Guyon, my Deer 870 has a 20" RS bbl with a rifled tube, and my HD 870 has an 18" bbl. Neither shows a clear advantage at HD ranges and under HD conditions.

The 20" will accept a 7 round magazine extension. With the 18" barrel, the 6 round extension is the biggest you can get.

If that makes any diference to you......
