Comments on Taurus 44 Mag.

Don't know the brand. How do they hold up against the magnum load ? Reliable?

Like mine

I've got a Taurus 44 mag raging bull. I've shot about 500 rounds and like it very much. But I'm not much of a gun expert. I am having trouble with the cylinder rod sticking. See other post with my name on it.

The Taurus quality (or lack thereof) thread seems to be a weekly occurance. If you try a search you are likely to find pages and pages on the subject.

IMO Taurus makes fine semi-auto pistols, but their Magnum revolvers SUCK! I've owned two (2) Taurus .44's and neither one made it to 1,000 rounds with out getting so loose (timing, cylinder not locking up tight) that I was afraid to shoot them.

I owned the M44 with a 6" barrel a few years ago and never had any problems with it before I sold it. It mostly digested 180 gr. and 240 gr. fodder when I owned it though the man who bought it from me received a full box of Buffalo Bore ammo with it that I had on hand that I never got around to using.

The M44 seems to have been eclipsed in popularity with the Raging Bull in the same chambering. I intend to get another Taurus .44 though this time I may go with the Raging Bull instead.

Best Wishes

My .44 magnum Raging bull has been great so far, no problems with hot loads...

Taurus .357 holds up well

I've put roughly 3000 rounds through a new Taurus Tracker .357 stainless over the last year with no problems. My S&W Model 629 .44 magnum on the other hand has a hammer tension screw that backs out leaving a floppy hammer, and the screw that holds the cylinder on the axle backed out jamming the cylinder in the closed position - both easy to fix, but annoying. The Taurus did have a rough trigger pull when I bought it, but a gunsmith tuned it to perfection for $50.

The raging bull line is supposed to be very well built and will handle hot loads. I cant speak about reliability because the ones I have used havent been mine to see what kind of long term performance they deliver. But I hear reliability is good.

I have a Tracker in .41Mag.
I have ran it Pretty Hard with reloads (about 1000 so far) and it seems to be up to the challenge.

Got to go to the sources. Taurus Talk at MSN and Taurusarmed.net are two of the best for that kind of info. Ask the members about this at the Revolver boards or do searches of the old and new threads.

Go with those who actually have and use these on a regular basis.

There is good info here at this forum as well, but expect those who have little or no experience with the 44 to show up.

Staff and members at www.taurusarmed.net can tell you the particulars, performance, and real track record for this model.

M44 .44 Magnum: Cylinder doesn't spin freely
17?? .17 HMR: Just dandy

Both shoot like a dream other than the .44 being a little sticky on the wheel.

Ive had one for years and only shoot full power magnum ammo through it and it still is fine. Cylinder lock up is tighter than my first year Colt Anaconda.Rear sight blade is loose though. But my Mountain Gun from Smith also has a loose sight blade...which is why I prefer fixed sights anyway....

Conversely I seldom if ever fire full power magnum ammo through any of my Smith 44s. I once shot a 629 loose back in the 80s.....
The Taurus has a bigger frame and cylinder than the Smith.
