Looking to Purchase A Chronograph
Any preferred brands, models, accessories, as well as pros and coins between products would greatly be appreciated. Oh, I would really say I have a budget at the moment so I'm open to whatever is thrown out there.
Thanks, Mike |

So what's your budget? I use a CED Millennium, but it's not the cheapest chrony out there.

I bought a Oehler 35P and used a spare camera tripod. It is not cheap, but I have used it for over 10 years now and never had an issue. Sometimes buying the best pays off.

I've been using a Shooting Chrony for years with no serious problem, except for the time some jazzbo put a bullet through it. Not my picture, but representative.
There are generally two types of chronograph owners. Those who have shot their chrony, and those who will shoot their chronograph. |

Looking to Purchase A Chronograph
I have a Beta Chrony and it's been fine, especially for $79. If I were buying today and had the budget, it'd be a CED or Oehler.

Nothing wrong with an inexpensive Chrony brand.
Mine's about twenty years old, been wounded a few times and is still going strong.

MidwayUSA just put the F1 on sale for $80. It is an entry level unit but reliable and at that price hard to pass up. I've been using one for a while and when I want to know anything other than FPS I have a spreadsheet I just put the info into to get E.S. and S.D.

Check out PACT. I've had one of the model 1's from the 80's IIRC. Never misssed a beat, still working & when you (or someone else) shewts the sensors, screens or supports replacment is dirt cheap & easy.
Yes, you will shewt it one day, I gaur-on-tee it!

I have used an Oehler and have a PACT. Both trouble free. We once put the Oehler and PACT in series at the range to see if they recorded the same, or very close, velocities. I don't recall any readings more than 1 or 2 fps different between the two...

I've been wanting a chrony for quite a while also. Any chance of repairing it if you shoot it?

Depends on what you hit. I have never (tapping on head to knock on wood) hit one. I make sure my firearm is sighted in and that line of sight is toward the upper half of the triangle before firing.

I have an old PACT Mark III I'd let go pretty reasonable. Is both a timer and chrono. Skyscreens and all in good condition. Just bought a used Mark IV and couldn't pass up the price or I would keep the Mark III. [email protected]

I have personally never shot mine, but I was using it at a public range and some guy down the line asked me if he could chronograph a handload. I told him "Sure, but if you hit it, you owe me $100.00." He agreed, and his second shot took it out. They guy paid up, and I called Chrony. |
