I don't think there were too many of these repros made.

Civil War reenactors have to buy rifle muskets that reflect the arms carried by the unit they portray. If their unit didn't have the Colt variation of the 1861 Springfield, they would be historically out of place with the rest of their company/regiment. Hence the demand was not what Colt had anticipated.

BTW, I had both a Armisport 1861 and a Colt. I gave the Armisport one away to a friend and still have the Colt.

I just found an auction from last december for a 2nd gen.musket. It sold for $770. There doesnt seem to be many around. Did they go through the same fabrication process as the revolvers did?

What's the difference between 2nd and 3rd generation? I presume 1st generation are originals?

Well, I think the 3rds were made by the licensing Co to trademark the colts in the late 90's. As a retailer, I know of some nib 3rds but don't know of any 1 or 2 offhand or what they would be worth. I thought of ordering some and have some reenactors interested but never committed on them as yet.
