Pre 64 Model 70 Safety
I just bought two 1949 Mod 70's. One standard and one Super Grade. Both are 30 Gov 06. The safety is in the fire position on both and won't go to safe. What is the fix? Thanks

CM: Try lifting the bolt handle and see if that lets it work. The firing pin has to be back for the safty cam to clear and engage.

I tried it without any luck. Can the firing pin be pushed back? CM

Mod 70 safety
Just talked w/an old Winchester guy, 80 yrs old. He said the only thing wrong was that the ball and spring ck was dry. Lube it up good and it should work. I did as he said and both freed up and are working perfectly.

I was hoping it was something like that. Glad you got them freed up.
