8mm Magnum

What case is used for the 8mm Magnum? I'm just curious because it sounds like an interesting cartridge.

I'm not sure what your asking here. I guess the answer is 8mm Remington Magnum. My cases are RP.

What I was asking is if there was any case that could be used to form 8mm brass.

The 8mm monster is based on the 375 H&H, so I suppose you could form those if you have some, but that case is harder to come by than the 8mm. So it would be advisable to just buy some 8mm ammo and then reload those casings instead, it would probably be cheaper in the long run. Or simply buy some 8mm brass, Midway carries it at a reasonable price.

The 375 H&H, huh? I have a question, is $15 a box for the Remington Core-Lockt 185gr a good price? They've got several boxes at a Super Wal-Mart Down here in Albertville, AL.

Yes, $15 is a very good price if it's a box of 20, if it's a box of 10 that's about average. But, the 185 is a light weight for a 375.

Mal. I think the 185 gr. bullet is for the 8mm Mag.
I was at the biggest gun store in Tucson yesterday. There was no 8mm Mag to be had. Remington quit making the rifles some time back, and you can only get one now through the custom shop.
Winchester and remington are dropping a lot of cartridges. Win. 7x57 Mauser, .358 Win. .458 Win. are just a few. For Remington, the 6.5 Rem. Mag., .350 Rem. Mag., and I haven't seen any 8mm Rem mag. or .35 Whelan on the shelves for some time. I guess the bean counters feel they are not selling enough of the stuff, so screw us.
If I am right, and that 185 gr. stuff is 8mm mag. I'd buy up as much as I could afford to get. At $15 a box, and if it is 20 rounds, then they're trying to clear it out, it seems to me.
Hell I look for Win. brand .458 brass where ever I go. I use it to make up rounds for a wildcat .375 I have. Of course, if i have to, I can and have used 7mm Mag. and .338 Mag brass to form my rounds but .458's are less work. But that's another story.

They're in boxes of twenty. I belive they only have six or seven boxes, and the salesperson said that they hadn't ordered any in quite a while.

One more question; how hot can 8x57JS ammo be loaded in a 98 large ring Mauser?

Paul - actually I suspected he meant they were 8mm from the beginning, but the note was vague, agree?

HM3 - assuming you are talking about 8mm, and you ever plan on owning one, buy them all. That's a very good deal. Then you'll have enough to reload for a long time. Since it's obvious Wally is trying to rid themselves of them, you might be able to get a lower price if you take them all. Believe it or not, they will bargain or at least the manager has the authority to.

HM3. I have an article in either RIFLE or HANDLOADER magazine on proper full power loads in the 8x57. Like the 7x57, the 8mm is underloaded here in the U.S. Just to be sure, the 8x57 JS is the one with the .323 in bore right? If so, E-mail me and I'll try to find it. I don't give load data on a forum.

Tried to e-mail you yesterday about the 8x57JS loads you mentioned. Got an undeliverable error with the address you supplied. The 8x57JS does have a bore size of .323. Could you send me load data and balistics on these?

I'll let you know how these loads worked out. It will be awhile because I don't have reloading equipment of my own; I'll have to borrow my uncle's setup.
