Rugged plain holster
I'm looking for a sturdy leather holster that will hold my Ruger Super blackhawk with 7.5" barrel. I won't be shooting fastdraw and I do not care how plain it is. I will be bouncing around on a tractor with it and I might use it for hunting. I might need a shoulder holster for my application, but would prefer a hip holster. Whatever it is, it must hold the revolver securely. To make matters more complicated I'm a leftie so I'm guessing my choices are more limited. I would prefer something that doesn't cost a days salary too.

I've had good luck over the years using Hunter's model 1100 holster. Their size #50 is made to fit your 7 1/2" Ruger. It's a simple proven design, very rugged and efficient. They are American made, have a retention strap, and are offered in left hand versions. Plus they are not expensive. Here's their website ( http://www.huntercompany.com/index.html ). I just bought a used one off eBay yesterday for $15 shipped. At my local gunshop they sell for $40 new, which is not alot for a heavy duty working holster.

My first choice for just about any type of serious application would be to contact Rob Leahy at SimplyRugged dawt com. Hand made in Alaska for real world rugged use. Great service.

I can vouch for Simply Rugged holsters as excellent quality. I have a pancake for my carry gun, a S&W Model 60. Very highly recommended.
