Stoney Point OAL Guage sanity check

Picked up one of these guages and the measurements I'm getting suggest I should be seating bullets anywhere from 0.015 to 0.100", depending on bullet profile, more than what's listed in my manuals. (making for shorter cartridges)

Does this seem reasonable?

Yes, it is reasonable and to be expected. Many of the more recent reloading manuals state that the best accuracy will probably be longer that the stated maximum OAL. Using a Stoney Point comparator will help to measure the cartridge accurately also. And..using your own fired case in the OAL gage is--most of the time--the most accurate method to find your chamber demensions and set up your sizing die.
