Reamer rentals

Has anyone had any experience with places like 4D Reamer Rentals?

Does it end up cheaper than actually buying the reamer outright?

Are the tools damaged when you receive them?

Do they hose you on the return? aka claim damage...

This very topic is why I stick with Savage actions for building. No reamer required. I had a wild hair back in the day and wanted to build off of a 700 action. From what I looked into back then, it wouldn't take much more money to just buy the reamer. While a little more money (not too much IIRC), I would be able to have and hold the reamer even though there's a chance that I would never use it again. Not to mention the fact that you're getting a new reamer that you know isn't damaged and will cut a smooth chamber. I could buy a reamer for 75 to 80 bucks back then (before shipping, etc.). Now I see that they're 130+ bucks. If you can rent for 50 or 60 bucks I may would try it, so long as the company offers a garuantee on the quality of the reamer.

I'm not sure what the Savage vs Remington action would have to do with it.

I have a Stevens 200 in 7mm-08 that I'm looking to make into an improved chamber. Hence my wondering on rental vs buy.

Ask around (on the gun smithing section of this and other sites.

I have had good luck loaning reamers to members as do others. I've never had a problem and I will continue until I get screwed over.

I never charged anyone. When they returned the reamer most enclose $5 bucks or so to cover postage which I never asked for. When you return the reamers wipe then down and coat them in oil.

You also need headspace gages to go with the reamers.

Sorry I can't help, I don't have an 7-08 imp reamer though.
