Mossberg 500

I was thinking about buying a Mossberg 500. They have one for sell new for $350, but this weekend they are running a 10% off sale. It is the security version with both the 18 1/2" barrel and the 28" field barrel. This sounds like a pretty good deal! Is this as good as I think? I figure there would be a few with more experience than me. I've mainly been around handguns most of my life, this would be my first shotgun. Any comments would be welcomed. Thanx.

i bought the same mossberg combo a bunch of years ago, great shotgun, having the 2 barrels is great it covers all your basesand takes about 30 seconds to change. i'm not up on the current price since i bought mine a long time ago but it seems reasonable.

In washington its 299 at Big 5 right now for that set up. It's pretty legit.

Personally I have the tactical model with the heatshield and the adjustable m4 style stock. I really enjoy it. Its not quite a bird gun because of the short barrel-18 1/2, but is a very maneuverable home defense weapon. It's a great shot gun. The only downside to the weapon is the safety on top of the receiver, but otherwise it's what you expect.

seems a little high, my local sporting goods has them on sale for 259 today and 279 after today and im in california where everything costs more.

Its a great shotgun, but that is a little high. i got mine in 20 gauge for $219 + tax and it was both the 188 1/2'' barrel and the 26'' barrel.

Don't pay more than $300.

it's actually $349 then with the 10 % off it would be about $315. I haven't found any for less then $360 around here and that's with only one barrel. Selection around here is pretty limited. I really don't want to have to drive all over the state looking for one though..

I got my 500 from Budsgunshop.com for 296 + CC and FFL charge after all said and done out the door was 328.

Good luck and I like it so far but have not shot it yet and cant wait.

It looks like it'll be about $330-340 after tax. So I think that I'll get in there tomorrow when they open and go ahead and purchase it. I do like the fact that it also has the 28" barrel, just for in case I get a wild hair and decide to quail or pheasant hunt with it. The main use will be HD though. I've seen a lot of them with just the 18.5" barrel for $350-$370 that seemed kind of high. And 870's are out of my range. I don't really want anything used or made overseas either. Not trying to knock anything from overseas, just don't want a turkish or chinese weapon. Both of my handguns are made right here in the US no complaints with either of them.

Was out with my son today shooting bench trap with our mossberg 500 and 835. Dang good guns. Have not had regrets about either of them.

I went ahead and bought it today. I'm hoping to pick it up on Monday. We have a 24hour wait period in IL and I won't be able to make it in there tomorrow. It may be a little high, but I haven't found any deals that just really jump out at me either. Like I said I was wanting something new and I do like the idea of a 10 year warranty and I've heard good things about their customer service, if I were to need it!

It's a very legit gun. I doubt you will be needing any customer service. But it is very top notch.

Most moss 500's are said to go 50,000 rounds or so without a single hitch, or atleast that's the bull I was fed when I bought mine.

As far as price, it is what it is. That sounds like a good deal in your area.

You will really enjoy that gun.

Shoot it and shoot it often. I have guns that I rarely use due to exotic wood or cost. I don't have that problem with the 500.

you could get one from walmart with a 28" barrel and buy the 18" barrel seperate, i got my 500 from walmart for 217$

The Walmarts around here don't sell firearms. They used to, then for some reason quit. Even the supercenters don't. They don't carry very much ammo either. I don't know if I could trust Walmart anyway. I was at one on Wed and a person was asking for some 7.62X39mm and the person at the counter said that they had never heard of that round!! Are you kidding me!!??

The reason your walmart quit selling guns and ammo was risk versus reward motivated. Any error in paperwork is a giant risk so if they ain't sellin' a heap of guns, it simply isn't worth risking the FFL of an entire nationwide retailer over one store.

Keep in mind, the person behind the counter is rarely firearms savvy in WM sporting goods section and to look for a firearms expert is as futile as looking for hen's teeth and frog's hair...
