What type of firearm are you most likely to get excited over?
We all have a firearm type we get most excited about, what's yours?

I kind of wish that there was a way to choose two since there are so many categories. I voted for bolt action rifle because as a hobby I like rifle shooting, and love the connection with the gun I get from having to manually cycle a good bolt action. However, revolvers are a close second and actually what got me into the hobby in the first place.

Most of my carry guns are autoloaders, but nothing tickles my fancy like a classic Smith Revolver. Nothing sweeter, IMNSHO

I agree, i don't know what it is about a bolt action. I love the motion and accuracy of a solid bolt action platform.

A clean, mechanically sound, older Smith revolver steps up my heart rate something wonderful. Especially the K-frames--brilliant balance of size, power, balance, versatility, grace and portability.

Not really covered in the pole, but the rifles that excite me the most is "as issued - unmodified" US Surplus Military Rifles.

Bolt action rifles by far. The last rifle I purchased was a 5R/.308 24" stainless barrel. When one of the shop employees handed it to me I got all warm and tingly inside. Honest to goodness. About a month and a half later I purchased it.

I can't narrow my love down to just one gun type. I love .357 revolvers, all semi auto hand guns and bolt action rifles.

1911s and S&W revolvers; specifically, P&R ones.

I chose semi-auto rifle, but military surplus is what I like the most. The history of the rifles is just so rich.

I voted "semi-auto handgun" because there is nothing quite as gorgeous as a well crafted 1911.

I voted revolver because the evidence in the safe suggests I get most excited over those... but I definitely have a thing for leverguns as well.

THE LIST IS NOT INCLUSIVE ENOUGH; the SA sixgun deserves a class all by itself and all the rest are just pretenders to it's exalted throne. S&W DA sixguns are in the running well back down the road. AUTOloaders.....yeah....right......gimme a break.....just malfs waiting to happen.
In my lifetime I have known men who collectively have put bullets in over one hundred people. TO A MAN they all say/said, bet your life on the revolver, NEVER on an autoloading pistol. And ALL of 'em had used both enough to know. ME ?? I carry a G30 everyday, the ugliest gun I've ever owned, the only pistol I ever bought that sold with NO pride of ownership whatsoever. Just a hammer that works. And so it goes... |

Anything with history! By that I mean a battle scarred Enfield. The old 32 auto Savage my Grandfather used to carry down to the City way back when. Or a replica Brown Bess. Or a 1911. Or the little single shot 22 my father shot as a little boy.
This has me wondering. Will anyone, 50-100 years from now look at a Glock 19 or a Berreta M9 the way they look at a 1911 or a SA Army? How about a AR-15/ M-16 compared to a Garand or a 1903 Springfield? Last edited by Cascade1911; April 15, 2013 at 07:19 PM. |

I gotta go with a nice over/under shotgun. Don't get me wrong I love my other firearms (M1A is at the top of the list) but I grew up shooting skeet and pheasant hunting here in Kansas. Hard for me not to appreciate the craftsmanship that goes into a Beretta 682 or Browning Citori.

I kept looking for the option:
O The kind that goes "Bang" Couldn't find it. Admittedly, . . . I'm just a gun junkie, . . . lever, bolt, trombone, single shot, scattergun, Ma Deuce or M60, . . . heck, if I could afford it, . . . I'd have a quad 50 on wheels. My parents bought an old farm house when I was 8, . . . we found a rolling block (probably 45-70) old rifle, . . . dry fired it till I broke the hammer spring, . . . step dad got rid of it. Too late, . . . I was hooked, . . . been that way ever since. Just like guns. And, yeah, . . . the total kill of all my guns is less than the Teddy Kennedy cars. May God bless, Dwight
