Shootout In MS Gunshop Leaves Two Dead

Two more were wounded. There was a dispute over a $25 fee. The owner of the gunshop and his son were killed. Otherwise, not a lot of details.

Quote:
He identified the owner and his son as Jason McLemore, 44, and Jacob McLemore, 17, WLOX-TV (http://bit.ly/1Jvbi9I ) reported Sunday.

Michael McCool, 29, allegedly shot both with a 40-caliber pistol, he told the station.

Over $25? It's a strange world in which we live.

I think strange and scary are not very good descriptions.

Let me see if I can think of a few words..

Stupid, foolish, unreasonable, shallow, righteous,

Along with a background check, I think they should make people take IQ test to buy firearms.. get a drivers license, procreate, and a few other things.

Think of it.. we'd have a lot fewer guns in the hands of people who shouldn't have them, there would be so few vehicles on the road we probably wouldn't even need traffic lights anymore, and welfare would be a thing of the past!

No gun is worth someone's life. It makes me wonder how something like that escalated.
RIP gentlemen.

Sadly, we seem to be living in an era when if someone feels insulted or slighted, for any reason, then it's OK to shoot and kill the person or persons who insulted them. If you have extremely thin skin, then you probably shouldn't be carrying a firearm.

We're back to living in the fantasy world of the Louis L'Amour westerns ...

"You insulted mah hoss. I'll see you in the street at high noon."

The two families knew each other. Too bad neither side had the good sense to back down.

Idiots with guns and all that.

Those are the types the government generally employs to administer the testing.

The problem is, the gun-control crowd absolutely loves idiots with guns. It gives them a source of material with which to mock all of us.

"Here's your good guy with a gun exercising his 2nd Amendment rights," is typical of the rhetoric they're throwing around when stuff like this happens.

Heinlein would be proud.

John Wayne (The Shootist) would also be proud:

I'm pretty sure Heinlein and Wayne would have paid the $25 fee to the shop owner without resorting to violence.

Well, we still don't know who fired first or if it was necessary or justified. We just know the McCools were not happy with the deal as it was going down, but they may be the victims here, or maybe not.

Slightly earlier article:
https://www.picayuneitem.com/2019/01...circuit-court/

This one provides some background. It would appear that the McCools were el primo dirtbags who were hell-bent on not paying for parts that had been ordered for their firearm.

I remember when I was a kid in the '50s a man went into 7/11 type store and bought some 22 ammo (they did that back then). He paid for the ammo, calmly took out his gun, loaded it and then robbed the store. I know its not funny but I always chuckle a little when I think about it.

It certainly adds to their argument but I doubt anybody, including the 'anti-gun crowd', loves it when somebody is killed with a gun. BUT, 'idiots with guns' is a problem, yes? No solutions from me, can't legislate away stupidity...But these days, many, many arguments go from pushing and shoving to gun fight...

Both sides were armed and discharged handguns and the younger deceased used his machete first. Given the narrative this looks like poor customer service by the LGS and an aggressive response by the patrons. A tragedy for all. Perhaps this is the cost of doing business in Mississippi?

People can be stupid, disgusting, evil and just flat out worthless. It has been like this since the beginning, the biggest difference now is that the coverage of this negative crap is 24/7.

He may have brandished it or tried to cut/stab with it, but tests showed only his own DNA was found on the "curved knife" he had.

From the 31 January Picayune article.

"...DNA testing showed Jacob’s was the only DNA found on the part of the knife tested, and that there was no mixture of DNA from other individuals on the sample taken from the knife..."

Samples were taken from both the handle and the blade.

I agree there are people that should not be carrying a gun. Having that determined by whether you have "thin skin" however, is a VERY slippery slope. Exactly who determines if I have a "thin skin", whatever that legally means if anything. My local sheriff I may have had a legitimate run-in with over God knows what, and he simply doesn't like me? An ex-girlfriend that would say anything to anybody if it would put me in hot water? Slippery slope... we don't want to go there.
