223 help

Friend just starting loads on 223 with 650- 223 dillon dies I think varmageddon bullets has ring on bullets . I have only loaded on pistol , pic coming

He should try seating them without crimping. Too much crimp I would say.

Those bullets have an extremely thin jacket. If he didn't inside chamfer those neck mouths, he's having to push pretty hard to get them into UN-chamfered mouths, hence the damage to the bullet. Those should shoot just fine.

What is the Load details?

That ring from the seating stem is excessive. I have seen this with heavily compressed loads from a POS Neil Jones seating stem, but not with a Dillon.

He did not tell me all, he did not give all details but I suspected that he needs to watch his seating and he said OAL is spot on.

Sunffy I believe has your answer.
I own the same dies and never had this problem. Always make 1 round and inspect it before you make the next one and adjust dies till you get it wright.

Looks like the seating plug is denting the jackets to me. Though I do not crimp, and I use a Lee Dead Length seating die. I have not had any problems with it. Though I load on a single stage press.
