Ruger 1911 problems?

I have a Ruger 1911 in 45acp.

any way yesterday I took it to the range and after about 10 rounds it started to drop the mag with each shot.

I thought this was odd so I put it away and shot my 22s.

When I got home I took apart the Ruger and saw that the mag release button was broke. So is this a part I can find online for cheep? Also this is not normal is it? All my other Rugers have been really good but this 1911 has had several smallish issues.

Send it back and let them fix it for free. To answer your question yes they are available on line and no it is not normal.

that what I thought. My Ruger revolvers are very reliable.

Either send it back to Ruger for them to fix it or order a higher end aftermarket part and have a qualified gunsmith fit it for you. A good aftermarket piece runs $20-$40 + gunsmith fees. As I'm sure you already know a part breaking after 10 rounds is not normal. Its not a known issue as far as I know with Ruger 1911's. Cast or MIM parts will usually break early on if there is a problem with them which is probably what happened in your case.

well there goes my argument that nobody has ever posted problems with the SR1911, considering it too nearly 2 years for one to surface I'd still say that's a pretty good track record.

Most of them don't have sufficient round counts on them to judge them and make an informed decision either. They have their problems but for a lower cost 1911 they seem to be an ok gun.

I think it's worth $20 to not have to worry about the gun being stolen in transit. The mag release is one part that shouldn't need any "fitting".

If you can use a screwdriver, you can replace the mag release assembly.

Typically if you call up and inquire about it most manufacturers will just mail you the part in the mail. The mag lock should be about as drop in as it gets, and my only require a couple of passes with a file to get it to function smoothly.
