the furure of my 870 hangs in the balance
so I scored this 870 last week for $130
so this first thing I want for it is a quality 18.5'' barrel. can I get a cylinder bore with either rifle sights or ghost ring sights already on it? next thing is if I remove the dimples in the tube for an extension can I take off the extension and put the vent rib barrel and regular retention nut back on?

I wont tell you that there are no 18.5" 870 barrels with rifle sights available but I've never seen one. I've also never seen an 870 barrel with a ghost ring setup. In every 870 ghost ring setup I've ever seen the rear sight is mounted on the reciever not the barrel.

Great job, any 870 for under $150 is a find.
You can get a 18" barrel with a bead sight, or you can get a 20" barrel with rifle sights. If you just have to have one, back in the late 1960's they did make a POLICE barrel @ 18" with old style rifle sights, be prepared to pay +$200 for a good one. popeyespappy is correct, most ghost ring setups mount the peep (rear) sight onto the receiver, so the answer to that is NO. Yes, if you remove the dimples from the tube, you will be able to use a standard mag nut, you may need to put a couple of turns of Teflon tape on the threads and on occasion check for tightness. Good Luck & Be Safe
