GunVault GV1000 opens with water

Recently, I spilled water on the top of the Gunvault GV1000, 5 minutes later it poped open. Called the company TEC service, Spoke to Art: Nice enough man.
Very disappointed that they did not take this issue serious.
Personally, The Gun Vault is for the life safety of my children.
Spill water on it and then it opens.

" This is not a safety Issue" IT IS A LIFE SAFTEY ISSUE".
I own 3 of these safes and will be removing them all and replacing them with a more reliable safe. Not worth the chance

Water must have shorted out the system. I prefer mechanical over electronic systems.

Talk to a locksmith, chances are he can take out the electronic lock and install a S&G lock that is used on vaults.

It's not a vault but a small gun safe for handguns.

firedog, that is interesting, I was thinking of an electronic for the car, Just water?? Think I will stick with a key lock instead.

I still think the mechanical pushbutton lock is the way to go on handgun safes. Simple,reliable, quick, and no key needed.

Well if people including kids and teenagers didn't know how to open them they sure do now.

Which is the difference between the illusion of security, and real security. How many Youtube videos can you find of people breaking into bank vaults?

$100 barely buys a pair of tennis shoes today. It's certainly not going to buy anything that offers any sort of real security. Keeping curious kids away is about the best you can hope for.

Thats true.

I think a key and cable would actually be more safe in some ways. Question is can you find the key in the dark in a panic situation.

I have actually been looking at the gun vault mini for awhile now. Just have not made a decision yet. It seems you sacrifice alot of security for convenience. Not only does water apparently cause them to open their are alot of complaints of them tearing up and locking your gun inside. Hope that wouldn't happen when you need it. Maybe a non electric safe may be a better choice like fas1 suggested. If these electronic safes fail this easy it could very well cost your children,you or some one else their life.

I actually use the FAS1 safes myself.

I use mine a little differently than most in that I unlock it when I'm going to bed so the gun is already out and ready. I close it and lock it in the morning once I'm up so that it is secured during the day.

A little off-topic...a news story mentioned that a majority of in-room hotel safes can be opened by entering all zeros into the key pad...it's the default code if someone forgets their personalized code. Water might work also......

Yet another example of a box that cost less than $100.

If you're going to count on $100 protecting your valuables, you'd be better off just leaving a $100 bill out in the open, and hoping that they just take that and leave.
