Only .40 xdm or g-21 sf and of course SD ammo they have no safetys to flip just aim and shoot. And shoot until the threat stops.....

+1 on my PF9, an LCR is a good answer but I don't know how much they weigh.

The detonator switch to the tactical nuclear weapon that I have stashed in my briefcase....

...well, we're talking about ultimate self-defense, right?.....

Following this scenario, probably a 380 and a head shot. Dark; close; under 16 oz; one shot. It will be like a flash-bang grenade in the face with powder burns to the eyes and, even if you miss, may buy enough time for follow on shots or to run like H#*L.

I'd throw a grenade and make a run for it...

We all know that a one shot stop is not always realistic. Thats why the experts practice 2-in the chest, one to the head.

I'd pull out "old reliable" a 16 oz titanium framed single shot
firing a .50BMG loaded with 220 grain palladium plated
pre-fragmented hollow magnesium bullet packed with
phosphorus traveling at 3800 ft/s from a 5" barrel. Nice thing
is that the BG will probably burn up without leaving more than
a greasy stain on the concrete.

If you time it correctly, you can use the recoil to split the skull
of the bad guy behind you too!

"He is wearing a denim jacket and flanel shirt."

What color is the shirt? In the dark, are you sure it's not body armor? If you can tell it's flannel, it's not a dark alley.

I've lived in and around cities for more than 50 years - D.C., Baltimore, Richmond. I don't go into alleys after dark.

Having said all of that, at real close range I'd shoot 'em in the face and then worry about follow-ups.

Anybody remember when the guys in Baltimore started a contest in the alley behind a bar? They used fishing rods to cast hot dog chunks down the alley in order to hook a rat. Really.

You can't make this stuff up.
Baltimore Bar Sponsors Fishing Contest - For Rats. June 27, 1994 ... alleys for the Yellow Rose Saloon's second annual rat fishing contest Sunday. ...

My first choice is the light saber. Mine weighs 14.2 oz and when turned on the full weight is 15.4 oz.

Taurus total titanium 5 shot .45Colt with 300 grain Hordady XTP. If the bullet doesn't hit him I can make my get away while he is blinded by the muzzle flash.

Tall order, but you can cheat over by a 2 or 3 ounces and carry a kahr pm40. A pm9 loaded will come in under weight.

A word to the wise, though. Don't trust any pistol caliber to do the job of a rifle caliber (one shot stop). Even hits from a rifle have a 50/50 chance of survival.

So, who gets to vote on whether this is the "ultimate self-defense question, ever"? Or with the spelling, is this a trick question?

Btw, Colt Commander .45 acp. It is over your imposed weight limit but then it becomes the "ultimate self-defense answer, ever".

9mm, 45, 357 - How about a 180gr bullet going 1300 fps out of a 10mm will take care of any a$$ w!@#$. And if you got a Glock 20 you still have 15 little friends to take care of any other alley rats.

The ultimate answer is always the same; do what you have to do to stop the attacker!
