25/06 AI ?

I have a 1972 vintage Rem 700 BDL 25/06. The barrel was shot out and I rebarreled with a Shillen #4 couture 27". I was wondering what kind of velocity increase I could expect re chambering to A.I. I use it mostly for varmints. My go to load is 58.5 grns. IMR4831 and a 75grn. V-max. Any thoughts if it's worth it or not?
Thank you, Tim.

It's only about 100 or so FPS faster. Not a lot of AI 75 grain data available though. Barrel length and twist seem to matter a bunch.

As I recall, P.O. Ackley said the 25-06 AI was not much improvement over the standard 25-06.

27’ barrel has its advantage. I have the 25/06 Ackely chamber reamer. A couple of smiths got hold of a few rifles that belong to a long time friend. My opinion they screwed one up in the worst way. I got involved and removed all doubt. One came up with a barrel replacement for a 275 Weatherby built by my friend. I refused to install the barrel because it was shorter. My opinion the 257 Weatherby barrel had to be at least 26” long. If the barrel was shorter a 25/06 or a 257 Roberts would be a better rifle. I also have a 257 Roberts Ackley Improved reamer. I had rather have the 257 Roberts Ackley Improved than the 257 Wheatherby.

I have 27" barrel on 280AI and 243AI and their is an increase but they were new barrel to start with. You going have barrel set back and new chamber cut and depending how many rounds fired may be worth having it done.

Thanks.

Thank you for your replies, I think for the chamber job and RCBS A.I. dies, the gain really isn't there. My varmit load is a 75grn. V-max @ 3840, I don't think 100-200fps. is doing me any service at all. I think I'll buy more powder and bullets with the money instead.

Thanks, Tim.
