I need a 40 S&W load...help
I got a Lee auto index turret press with the auto powder dispenser. I also have five lbs. of WSF and WST but Lee's chart doesn't list this powder and I can't figure out how to convert my powders to work with this system and I might get hurt if I try. So, I have a lb. of Herco and Lee list it in the table. Does anyone have a 40 S&W load using Herco powder and a 165 grain jhp bullet plus the same but with a 180 grain jhp bullet? Better yet does anyone have the figures to use WSF or WST in this powder measure? That would be great but either one would help me a lot. Thanks for any replies....FullCry

My Lyman 3rd edition reloading book has the following for
180 grain JHP WSF starting grain-5.0, velocity-853fps, C.U.P.-17,700 / max load grains-6.2 velocity-993fps, C.U.P.-23,400. There is nothing for your powder choices in the 165 grain bullet. Have you tried the Hodgon web site for loading data? The web site is much more comprehensive than the books with regards to info here is some info from a web site, http://stevespages.com/400p_2_165.html here is the home page of his site check it out. He put alot of effort into it, http://stevespages.com/page8.htm Table #4 will get yoy to his reloading data and for the 40S&W use the size of .400 for the info you need. All his data is listed by bullet size in measurements as I posted for the 40S&W

Thanks, but
I have all of those loads because I go to that site also. My problem is the way Lee made this powder dispenser. They have a table with common powders and charges--which I thought WSF and WST would be. You have to know the grains of powder and multiply it by a number they list above the grains---can't remember the name of the value for my instructions are in my shop---to get cc's, then you use this plastic disc in the powder dispenser and the number on it corresponds with the cc's that you figured. My problem is they don't list my powder so I can figure up the cc's on it. I'ts crazy....a bunch of shhh. I do have some Herco which they list so if no one understands this or knows the values I need or knows how to help me figure this out then Herco it is or one shell at a time. Thanks Y'all, FullCry

Don't rely on calculating charge weight based on density. Get a scale, throw a charge, change the disk up or down as needed.

The attached .pdf Burn Rate file lists cc/gr.
If I understand the Lee dippers use correctly - not sure I do, can't you take your desired load, do the math, and select the proper dipper for whatever powder it is you want to use? |
