Steel shot..sorry if it is a newbie question.

Will I be able to shoot steel shot through my 18.5 barrel w/cylinder fixed choke on my Maverick 88?

The Maverick web site specifically says that the 88 is suitable for steel shot.

I would still think hard about a new barrel for it if you plan on duck/goose hunting with it, which is why I assume you are asking about steel. With an 18.5" stock and cylinder choke you are going to have to get them to work awful close, as steel does not hit near as hard as lead did. I would go with at least 26", and removable tubes, although M is what I tend to use.

I would have to agree with bgoldhunter. A cylinder choke is no high flying bird gun. The gun you have is mostly for HD purposes and maybe slugs. Not the BEST choice for much else without a longer barrel and tighter chokes. My 2 cents worth which happens to be on sale today only, for free

Thanks for all the input. It is indeed is set up for HD. It started out as the 88 Field model with the 28" barrel and mod choke. I just wanted to be sure about steel through the 18.5" barrel. Thanks again.
