Some thoughts.........
1) If you're using 3" magnums in both guns, one is no more "powerful" than the other. The shot charge weight and velocity are going to be about the same (some small differences may be present, but not enough to matter one way or the other).
2) The small difference you see between POI of the 00 vs. 000 can be explained by effects other than differences in barrel rise based on "power". 3) The 000 patterned tighter (it appears) from your barrel than did the 00. 4) I'd expect the difference in pattern size, the shooter, and random chance are the reason for the 000 pattern hitting slightly higher than the 00. 5) Based on these results I'd go with the 000 load based purely on the pattern........... What is your intended purpose for the loads you are selecting here? Hunting? Home Defense? Both?

this was a requested thread from my "intruder stopper" thread. when i shot i put the bead directly on the center. everyone has there own opinion's but to me it seemed the 00 buckshot didn't rise up as bad as the 000 did.

I see pictures of a coupla pieces of paper with a buncha holes in 'em. Doesn't tell me much of anything beyond that. That's what shotguns with buckshot DO after all, make a bunch of holes in things.
Knowing what pattern a single round of a given load will consistently yield, out of a given shotgun at a given range, is useful information. What does your shotgun and your chosen load do at 3 yards? At 5 yards? At 7 yards? And so on. What does the total payload of that 00 buck load weigh? How about the 000 load? How many pellets in each load? What's the muzzle velocity of each? How does each one pattern at different ranges? Using up ammo to learn something useful is a good thing. Otherwise, it's pretty much just an exercise in converting expensive ammo into noise, as far as I can tell. lpl (old phart buzzkill stick in the mud)

THANK YOU
by your pictures and your testimony, I would agree with you. I think the easier control you had is more important than a negligible 'shot group' difference during a home defense situation, but I enjoyed reading all of the responses. Also&in my opinion, you can have valid testing even if every variable isn't covered. That's not to say that a similar test won't yeild different results or end up different for someone else either though.
